David Appel has had a tremendous influence on the performing arts with his award winning innovations in partner dance choreography and performances. He specializes in the technique and originality of tricks and lifts. His choreography is currently seen throughout the competitive dance arena in many styles of partner dancing. David's expertise in choreography was developed through his years of experience in competitive American Smooth Ballroom, American Rhythm Ballroom, Theatre Arts, Showcase, and Classic styles of West Coast Swing and Country & Western dance. David Appel started out his dance career very early in the eighties and gained recognition the moment he stepped onto the competitive dance floor. In 1982, he became a Country & Western Dual Champion by winning both the Rising Star and Professional Open divisions for his debut performances with his partner Gayla Wilmore. This was followed by over two decades of competitive success in many styles of partner dancing and over 60 first place wins. Also in the eighties, David married and formed a dance partnership with Tracey Appel. Both David and Tracey started their dance careers in Houston, Texas with Country & Western dance styles. From the Country & Western genre they later moved into Ballroom, Theatre Arts, Swing, Hustle, and Niteclub. They quickly became one of the most versatile dance couples around, winning over 40 titles in many different styles of dance. From the first moment that David and Tracey performed their fifteen-minute C&W routine entitled 'The Radio Show' and their most beloved 'Music Box' routine, they became internationally sought after as performers and coaches. Here is a list of some of David and Tracey’s more notable titles: HUSTLE SWING COUNTRY WESTERN NITECLUB CABARET David continued to pursue his passion for dancing and performance in the years to follow with many successful partnerships.. David and partner Angi Fox won the 2001 UCWDC World's NiteClub 2-Step Championship held in Edmonton, Canada. He has won hustle titles with partners Debra Hampton and Valerie Menard. David also competed with Valerie Menard in the UCWDC Masters division and Lisa D'Amico in the Open Eight Dance division. He also continued to perforn and win cabaret competitions with mother and daughter team Sharon and Susan Kirklin, most notably the 1995 US Open Cabaret Championship. Most recently, David and Susan Kirklin became the 2004 Swing Showcase Champions by taking first at the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships. David and Susan have performed their riveting routines at numerous competitions, closing the dinner shows and receiving enthusiastic standing ovations from the spectators.
